A closed 1930s plan, opened room by room until the lake reached the back of the house.
From brief
to handover
The owners had spent two summers in the house before they called. They wanted the ground floor to work as one room without losing the walls that make it a house, and they wanted the stair to stop behaving like a corridor.
We removed three partitions, moved the kitchen to the north wall, and lined the stair in honed travertine so the skylight carries its light the whole way down. Most of the furniture is oak, made in Lisbon and driven up.
